Multi-Sensor Fusion Approach

Modern vehicles can look surprisingly similar. Passenger cars are growing larger, while some trucks are becoming more compact. Vehicles such as a Toyota Hiace minivan and a Vellfire MPV may look visually distinct to the human eye, but their 3D physical profiles and laser/ LiDAR silhouettes are virtually identical from certain angles, making them difficult for single sensors to categorize.

By integrating LiDAR Laser Scanning and HD Cameras, our system captures 3D contours, physical dimensions, and subtle visual features simultaneously. This sensor fusion approach bridges the gaps of single-sensor methods—overcoming optical lighting vulnerabilities and LiDAR’s lack of visual detail—to deliver consistently accurate and reliable classification, even for complex vehicle types or challenging angles.

Within multi-use parking and logistics facilities, the system supports dynamic fee calculation based on precise vehicle size and/ or classification. Some sites charge by vehicle length, such as 10, 20, or 40-foot freight classes, while others apply different rates based on vehicle category, even when two vehicles are similar in size. This granular data enables robust automated billing and secure access control.

For urban traffic control and major transit hubs, the system simultaneously monitors vehicle queues and passenger volumes. For instance, by correlating the number of waiting taxis with people counts, operators gain a real-time understanding of pickup zone supply and demand. This data allows for proactive vehicle release and optimized ride-share coordination.

Moving beyond standard vehicle detection, the system has been continuously developed and refined to support Micro-Object Detection — a capability that can detect and identify objects as small as a 1 cm black cable even in low-light conditions. This adds an important safety layer for automated parking racks and other high-risk environments, helping detect children, pets, stray cables, and other small debris before they create serious mechanical or safety hazards.
